Windows XP Pro start-up problem after last ‘update’

I am getting some system ‘hanging’ problems at start-up with the most recent MS Windows XP Pro automatic update. It is resolved by using ‘last known good configuration’ option at Boot. I am interested to know if anyone else is/was having any difficulties.
