IDE RAID controller and a serial ATA controller?

Can someone plz explain the difference between these two

IDE RAID controller and a serial ATA controller

and what they do?

IDE RAID controller. Type of connector used is IDE with an IDE cable. Max speed is 133MB/s data transphere. Uses a standard HD.

Serial ATA controller (SATA) Type of connector SATA Port. Thin Cable. HD's are hot swapable. Max speed is 150MB/s data transphere. Requires a SATA HD.

Both are capable of setting up 2 or more HD's in a RAID config.

Technically he's not spekaing of a SATA RAID controller, so the SATA disk can't be in a RAID-array. Most mobo's and external controller have RAID support though...


It's suggested u buy a special drive bay for hotswapping HDD's. Bit difficult opening & unscrewing your HDD @ run time....
