Squashing a picture vertically on crt monitor?

I want to run my xbox 360 at 1280x720, but when I do this it will stretch the picture vertically. Is it damaging to the monitor to then squash the image on the OSD to a 16:9 ratio? I have already done it to test it and the image looks good, but right now I will not run it like this for the long term with out knowing if it is damaging the monitor.

no it will not damage the monitor. the picture is just squashed a bit, that's all
