I'm trying to install XP to a new 250GB Samsung SpinPoint P120S SATA2 hard drive.
I had trouble initially getting windows to recognise the drive using the drivers that came with my motherboard but after having downloaded numerous different drivers I finally found one that worked. Now after hitting F6 during the XP install it installs the driver fine and recognises the drive but then comes up with:
"The following list shows the existing partitions and unpartitioned space on this computer.
Use the UP and DOWN ARROW keys to select an item in the list.
To set up on existing partition press ENTER.
To create a partition in the unpartitioned space press C.
To delete the selected partition press D
0MB Disk 0 at Id 0 on bus 0 on fasttx2k
<Setup cannot access this disk>"
So I pressed enter and it came up with this:
"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
The problem seems to be caused by the following file: setupdd.sys
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Check to make sure any new hardware is properly installed. If this is a new installation then ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need.
If problems continue, disbale or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable componentas, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

So I restarted and this time tried pressing C instead of enter, to create a partition but nothing happened so I pressed D and then got the same error as when I pressed enter.
I think I might need to format it but the only way I know to do this is by using my old ATA HD and Windows 2000 doesn't recognise the HD and the drivers I have seem to be for use when installing an operating system not for use with when running one.
Can anyone help please?
