1. What is the difference between 6600, 6600GT, and 6600LE?

2. What is the difference between 6800, 6800GS, 6800GT, 6800 Ultra and 6800XT?

3. What is the difference between 7800, 7800GS, 7800GT, 7800GTX, 7800GTX Extreme

I know that 6600LE < 6600 < 6600GT
LE = Lower End
GT = ??

These small letters and words are kinda confusing

I think they're meant to be non-descriptive... That way if you're not very well versed, they all look pretty close.

6800XT<6800<6800GS~6800GT<6800Ultra

7800GS<7800GT<7800GTX<7800GTX 512mb

The other letters are just cool combos that are supposed to remind you of fast cars. ;)

Basically different versions have different clock speeds and a different amount of pipes, among other things.

LE for hardware is usually (limited edition) marketing tool
gt- grand tourismo i guess graphics turbo
gs super
x is just there because of a newtrend taken over from car industry
like acura abandoned thyr word models and switched to letters like(rsx,tsx,tl)to make it look more luxurious and sporty because all the german luxury cars are named in that manner so same thing with video cards
also X used to be for experimental in any industry(like NSX-sport experimental)

dont pay attention to the letters just look at specs

Its the chipset you are interested in when it comes to buying graphics cards. The letters at the end like GT, GTX, ULTRA are in relation to the different chipset for that card.
Do not be fooled into buying a graphics card just because it has 256MB/512MB DDR RAM on it, because a better chipset with 128MB DDR RAM will more than likely run faster.
