modem installation frustration.

Trying to install a pci 56k modem in my system in my sig. I have tried a cheap best data modem and a diamond Supramax LE. Both are brand new and I get the same problem with both. I plug them into my pci slot and turn on the computer. I get 1 long beep on start up and my monitor never comes on. I take the modem out and the system runs just fine. Any help is appreciated.

have you tried the modem in all of the different pci slots to see if perhaps one is dead?

Not yet. The fan from the vid card blocks one slot and I have USB/firewire taking up my other one. Think I will move usb/firewire port up one and try that one.

Tried other slots with no success. I get 1 long and 2 short beeps on start up. Which is a monitor or display card error. However, everything works perfectly with the modem not installed.

You can try to install the card and then start in safe mode and install the drivers. Its worth a try.
