DVD-R/HD drive recommendations

yes the speed is limited by usb. and that basically is the function of a buffer. data is loaded into the buffer in advance, that way if there is an interuption in the data stream it continues from the buffer

OK so should I be moving in another direction with this? if USB is going to limit my speed and not allow me to maximize the transfer speed, should I be looking at other options (firewire, ethernet,etc)?

Or, and I really hate to ask this, should I not use the Dothan for this and get/build another system with another CPU and run the drives on that? Would the gains in speed be wirth the extra costs? TIA

external drives are slow. its just a fact you'll have to live with. USB should be fast enough but the only point we are trying to make is that the hdd will not be working to its potential because the hdd interface is faster than USB transfer speeds. this doesn't mean it will be unusable
