WINXPCPS.REG (WinXP Clear Page file on shutdown)

This Registration (.REG) file clears the Page file when you power off the computer.
Restart Windows for these changes to take effect!
ALWAYS BACKUP YOUR SYSTEM BEFORE MAKING ANY CHANGES!

Browse to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ System \ CurrentControlSet \ Control \ Session Manager \ Memory Management

and add the DWORD variable "ClearPageFileAtShutdown"=dword:00000001

You can also do this without reg hacking.
Go to Control panel Administartative tools, local security policy. then goto local policies ---> security options.
Then change the option for "Shutdown: Clear Virtual Memory Pagefile"

your page file should be at least 1.5 times the amount of physical ram in your machine. its ideal to put the page file on a separate controller from your boot/system partition. you can raise your min page file value to the max value to try to avoid low virtual memory warnings.

how much memory do you have? if you have 1.5 to 2 gb, I would turn it off...otherwise, I set mine to 4096mb even thou they say 2.5 times your ram, this has worked fine for me
