Time to start a new rig...

Hey guys been gaming for a little under a decade now and have seen worlds of change in hardware lately. I normally play FPS shooter's (CSS, BF2, DOD source etc) but am not limited to them (EQ2 aswell). Last year I bought a notebook to take to college with me, and at the time it had the best gaming parts around. 128mb 9700 mobility ati, amd 3700+, 1gb ram, 19" lcd etc... And it's a great little rig for the space. But recently I dropped out of college and started working fulltime, so I no longer need my trusty laptop...

So that said I will be starting with my first full buildup Desktop gaming system. I have excellent mechanical knowledge ( welding, soldering, electrical skills etc) and will be making the all aluminum case (since i can't find one i love...).

I have assembled all these parts/prices from newegg and am not set on any, looking for gaming/performance only...cost is marginal, shooting for 4500$ but can be extended...

That comes out to a little over 4k, anything I missed, anything you'd change? Compatibility? I want the ultimate gaming rig...

Well, the ultimate gaming rig would probably come out at $7000-8000, but for borderline, let me see what I can do.

I think I'll stick with Nvidia 7800gtx, guess i'm an ATI hater now... Only need about 10gb of hd on this computer, as it will only play CSS for cal this season...

Thinking of dropping down to the AMD X2 4800 now... simliar specs, better ocing potenial

Wow dude, that's a lot of money for a CS:S system. But whatever suits you, I guess. Just note a sub-1000 rig could run CS:S all max with no problems.
