Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer Connection "Timed Out"?

First of all, thanks for looking and the help! I use a 56K modem to connect to the internet. I usually get connected around 45.3K and when trying to open a webpage with either Mozilla Firefox 1.5 or Internet Explorer 6, the connection gets timed out? What does this mean? How can I fix it? I use Kerio Personal Firewall 4 and I thought that it might be my firewall blocking the connection. I disabled my firewall for a short period of time to see if it was my firewall. As you can tell, it's not. Atleast, I don't think it is. I have done spyware, antivirus, and antimalware scans in safe mode to see if I might have some problems with my computer. Each scanner ended with no infections/problems. I use Avast! 4.6 Home Edition as my antivirus. I use Spyware Doctor, Spybot Search & Destroy and Ad-aware SE Personal as my anti-spyware/adware programs. Also, I use Ewido Anti-malware for my anti-malware program. If you get this message for EVERY page you try and visit, it usually means your internet connection isn't there. Try to browse through IE and see if you don't get a "Page cannot be displayed" error page. If this is the case, your internet connection is screwed up somewhere.

Edit: sorry, just reread the post and saw that you tried IE 6. Seems like your internet connection is screwed up. what OS are you running? Are you using any type of router? what ISP are you using?

I use no router. I am running Windows XP Home Edition SP2. My ISP is AOL. Yeah, I know, AOL does suck...

I'd check your internet connection settings in network connections. I went to find the AOL page with the settings. But helpful AOL gave me this. If you have any information on what your settings should be then double check them

cud it be that iex is set on to fast waiting... thinking u have dsl but since u have 56k the site simply donws to slow...
