I just bought a Maxtor 100 GB external hard drive. I bought it so i could supplement my hard drive on my laptop. it is only 4 GB and when i put Windows XP it ate up all the memory... so, i was wondering if there were any steps i needed to take to make the computer notice the external hard drive as a regular drive i can load new programs on?

Not possible. USB uses windows drivers to work.

You must buy a new 2.5 inch laptop hard drive and install it in the laptop. The easiest way would be to use the ROM drive and place a speical hard drive in there. It should work but i've never tried it before.

little small

If you have a laptop that only has a 4GB hard drive, chances are it's not going to run XP for squat. If it's capable of handling XP you need to replace the hard drive with something a little roomier. An external drive will only be okay for storage and the same with a second bay mount drive.
