I'm also somewhat of a noob but I had the same problem.
Go to your start menu right click on "My Computer" then select properties, Click on the "Hardware" tab, then click on the "Device Manager" tab. What dose it say under "Display adapters"? I believe this is where I "disabled" my onboard graphics, to get my video card to work. I did this over a year ago so I can't remember for sure. You can also "Enable" your Nvidia 6600 if its "Disabled" under "Display adapters"
There are also options here....Go into the "Start menu", click "Control panel", click "Display" then click on the "Settings" tab. What dose it say under " Display"(under the settings tab)? Also you can click the "Advanced" button, then click the "Adapter" tab, What dose it say under "Adapter type"?
Yes, Your video card should have came with a install CD with the drivers on it, But I think you can get the drivers from Nvidia online.
