6800GS Vs. X850XT ?

they mean the 6800 GT. it has 16 pipelines, compared to the GS's 12. but the PCI-E 6800 GS compensates with higher clock speeds.

there's no other difference between them though.

and it is false that the 6800 cards will struggle in future. testing the Unreal3 engine (which will be used in Unreal Tournament 2007), they have used 6800 Ultra's. they run it fine.

Note that thats comparing the X800XL and the 6800GT. There is still a X800XT and a X850XT and a X850XTPE to go before ATi runs out of X800 cards.

The X850XT can be assured to beat the 6800GT/GS in most games.

I found a X850XT vs. 6800GT benchmark, but there isn't one conclusive pic that I can post.

Battlefield 2 goes to X850XT.
Counter Strike: Source goes to X850XT.
HL2 goes to X850XT.
UT2004 goes to X850XT..
Doom 3 goes to 6800GT.
FarCry is TIED.
FEAR is TIED.
Chronicles of Rid**** goes to 6800GT.

X850XT - 4
Tied - 2
6800GT/GS - 2.

Allow me to say it again. The 6800GS is better than the 6800GT. You would be stupid to buy a GT. The GS will overclock to crazy high speeds, and beat the 6800 Ultra.

Thats an old benchmark. Try playing FEAR of Call of Duty 2 on an X800, it will choke. In fact, the X800s are incapable of displaying shadows in CoD 2, and FEAR is just a joke on them.

Even so, the small amount of performance in those older games doesn't justify the bad drivers. Unless It performs very well like the X1900 XT then I don't want to bother with them. ATI needs to put out better drivers soon.

They have already made huge advancement in the X1000 series. The X800 series though was just a plain bad series, I dont think any driver fixes is going to save it. There must be something wrong with the architecture itself that causes all the problems that they have.

There are still some issues with the X1000 series in the drivers but it isn't as bad as the Xxxx series. I'm trying to find the review for it but I found benchmarks and the X1800XT outperformed the the 1900XT (which in turn outperformed the XTX version in the same test) by I think like 2 or 3% in specific tests, which wouldn't make since unless it's a software issue because the X1900XT/X are clocked the same.
