definately upgrade mobo + cpu + vid card if you can

if you're getting a 6800GS with your current rig im afraid your cpu will bottleneck it

apx113, an SLI is not worth its price for gaming, when you play F.E.A.R you will get way better graphics with a 6800GS than when you get an SLI

That is not true, but for your money SLI is a waste of it.

I run FEAR max settings (not soft shadows) at 1024X768 with a AMD 64 3000 and a 7800gt, that should fit in your budget, hopefully.

on toms hardware, they ran the FPS benchmarks on FEAR with the 7800 cards and 6600 cards and the 7800 cards blew away the 6600 as far as FPS rate.

I always wondered why the 7800 cost more then the 6600.

A 6800GS ($200), DFI Lanparty UT 4 ($130), Socket 939 Athlon 64 3200+ ($165).

So around $500

Although it's not the most powerful computer, it definitely leaves room for upgrades, and OCing.
