I was wondering about the newer Pen 4 631 (Cedar Mill).
Will it run much cooler than a Pen 4 630 Prescott or are they pretty much the same ?

Thank you

I dont honestly know, but its hard to run hotter than a prescott, so probably yes, it is cooler

I worked on a Dell XPS notebook last week. The main issue was freezing, crashing and it refused to boot. I removed the (2) fans on the bottom/rear of the notebook to find that the fans as well as the heatsinks were completely clogged with dust. Cleaned them out... Then installed "speed fan" which has a "Dell Notebook - feature"...

P4 3.4 Prescott - Temp: 91C...!!! with big red flames...

I was like holy... crap!!!!

Even with a notebook cooling platform I couldn't get it lower then 70C.

Why anyone would think about putting a 3.4 pressy in a notebook is beyond me?

they are the same performance wise one is 90nm and one is 65nm nothing to do with performace
He asked about temps, not performance

Anyways, yes they do run cooler. They are also overclocking extremely well. You will find better info about Intel chips at the Intel section of xtremesystems.org.
