what is the difference between pci vid cards and agp vid cards?

i heard agp is getting harder and harder to find and its getting out dated. is this true?

i also heard that agp is newer technology. is this true? if it is then how is it out dated?

thanks in advance

Trevor

AGP is newer than PCI, and PCI Express is newer than AGP. Yes AGP cards are becoming harder and harder to find.

PCI operates at 33MB/s, AGP operates at 2GB/s, and PCI Express operates at 4GB/s.

Just to add PCIE can read and write at the same time where as AGP can read or write at a given time.

Get a PCI-E and make sure its X16. X4 runs at like .8 of an AGP so it wouldnt be worth it.

it goes

pci > agp > pcie

pci...i dont think they even make those cards anymore
agp....getting out of date..and not many companies are making them
pcie....newest technology and best to go with if building a new system

of course they do. All sound cards are PCI. Wireless network cards are PCI. USB 2.0 expansion cards are PCI. Other controller cards are PCI. It's still very much in use.

FghtinIrshNvrDi, he meant video cards I think :p. Video cards are pretty much the only thing that can take advantage of that much bandwidth.
