i'm hooking up my new mobo and when i turn the power supply on it makes a high pitch tone. does anyone know what it is?

We really cant tell you anything without specs. I would think you having something grinding against each other or something is not seated right. Re-seat everything and post back

you need to feed the hamsters inside the unit,, or they wont run,,,

seriously,, a high pitch whine could be anything from a stuck bearing to a faulty resistor,,

send it back,,

cheers,

I would have to disagree. To send it back right away would be rash. He should at least investigate the problem before he decides to do that because it is a real hassel.

i found out that i had some screws tightened too much. the green light on the mobo comes on now and the high pitched tone went away. problem now is that it won't power on but when i hold down the power button for 2 seconds and let go the fan on my graphics card will spin for a little bit and then stop. the motherboard is an asus a7v8x-x.
