memory problems?

i dont understand why, but i removed my 256 MB memory chip from my PC, and i have less memory now (512 MB) and it seems like my PC is running smoother and faster, with less memory. Why would this happen?

maybe that stick was causing errors. Check it with memtest.

its not in the PC right now, i'll try that later.

i'll google memtest to download the program.
