Original Equipment Manufacture

It is usually just the main piece of equipment without the CD's, manuals, connection wires, etc.

Sometimes it's good depending on your situation. Almost all Hard drives are OEM. If you plan on doing overclocking on a processor, OEM ones are good, because you're buying an aftermarket heatsink anyway.

I always buy retail motherboards and video cards though....

OEM equipment is cheaper than the retail versions. If you want to buy Windows XP, then buy it OEM, its like half the price of the retail version.

OEM drives, memory, and processors are good. Don't worry about the cpu not having a warranty as overclocking voids it anyways. OEM software is usually really good too. Windows XP OEM and Norton Antivirus products, for example, are around half the price of the regular retail version and it comes with all the discs and serials, just no box.
