Jolly good, so that said if I were to buy a dell with a P4 3.4Ghz HT and a ATi X600 256mb, that would suffice for gaming for a while? (+ 2 gig of ram...?!)

I'm gonna say no. X600 video card really blows. I am on a bare-minimum card right now, the X700. I would die if I had to use the X600. It's really terrible. And it's a Dell... Don't count on getting any money out of it used, and no upgrading, period.

You're not goint to see much of an upgrade at all going from an MX4000 to an X600. I've had an MX4000, and they're pretty terrible. Every extra 50 bucks you can scrape up for a video card is going to make your life a lot easier.
