and as for the gfx card i am almost 100% sure im getting a 7800gtx 512mb card from evga. but here is the real question... i understand that usually for gaming AMD has said to have been the better one because of its 64 bit support however i found a pentium 4 chip that runs at 3.6 ghz which supports 64 bit which is basically the same as AMD except faster. here is the PENTIUM chip

it is price i know... but i do have the money so that isnt a problem. So do you think that processor will work out well for this type of computer? Personally i think it would out perform an AMD since it has the newest technology. if you guys think i should get an AMD dont be afraid to say so or get some other different part please let me know. ive got open ears so anything is helpful. Oh and as for the motherboard i cant decide yet since i dont know what chip im getting but again suggestions are helpful =D. Thanks again!

Oh one last thing, i will be playing games like counter-strike, fear, diablo 2, call of duty 2, and other games such as that. So pretty high end performance games as far as fear and COD2 are considered. Thanks again!

checking out systems this way is painful because I have dial but if you need some advice ill help.

So i'll get to the parts, most of the parts seem decent but I do have a few hassles being:

- You don't really need a sound card as the difference isn't really that much better than using on board audio.

- don't get a lite on burner, aim for a company like LG or Pioneer.

- You shouldn't use the PSU that comes bundled with your case, if there is a way to get the case without then good, low end PSU's can cause problems to other parts in the system.

- Get a hard drive that is SATA instead of IDE, the cable is smaller and the performance gain is rouglhy 10 to 15% over IDE, plus it doesn't cost a lot extra, highly recommend, SATA 2 if possible.
you might also save money if you get two smaller 160gb drives as the prices escalate like crazy when you hit capacities of that range, also get Seagate if you can but WD is quite good.

The CPU heatsink is a good model, the copper was a good choice as it is quite efficient in heat dissipation.

If your happy with that graphics Card than it whould be alright but i'd probably just aim for the 7800GT 256mb card.

Iv'e got serious hassles with the CPU, it may be 64bit and higher frequency but Intel don't make 64 like AMD do, they're 64 bit series still get owned by the AMD counterparts, I'd get some benchmarks and show you but I have dial up. Generally AMD's are better for gaming and are generally just better so you should at least consider it. I hope you take what I have said into account and good luck purchasing.

Don't judge the clock speeds of athlon processors and compare then to pentium 4 processors.

Athlons have a different architecture which puts the memory controller on die which means it can do more with less clock speed.

So basically an Athlon 64 3500+ or 3700+ would definatly outperform that Pentium, as well as save you money.

I suggest you into waiting until the G71 core comes out from nvidia, that will beat the 7800GTX 512, dont get the P4, buy a X2 4200+ or a X2 4400+

Probably a lot but well worth the money from what I have been hearing. Just start saving the extra money now .

Ewww.. an Intel computer. Yes don't be mislead, AMD is doing amazing right now.

I'd suggest a dual core AMD for the $400 that that proccessor is. What's your budget and I'll make a list of what I'd buy. And do you need keyboard/mouse and moniter in that budget?
