Yes, you can stick a nvidia card in a ATI motherboard. And yes you can stick two of the X1900's in there if you are dumb enough to/have too much money (SLI/Crossfire is a wastye of moneyprice:performance wise.)

Stick with the Nvidia chipsets though, as they are the best I have used.

I'll let you guys know the reason I'm asking. I have a 2.3482 year old Alienware with me at college and an awesome new gaming rig a made myself a few months back. The Alienware is not so cool any more so I plan on ripping out the motherboard, CPU and GPU and replacing them with an amd 3500 and the parts I posted earlier a mother board with a cross fire xpress northbridge, and an EVGA geforce 7800 gt because I'm on a budget. and in the future buying a new x1900 for the alienware and moving the geforce to my other computer and using SLI. but i don't know wether or not that new ATX motherboard will fit in my old alienware case. any sugjestions or comments?

your money would be better spent on one very good graphics card, rather than two in sli/crossfire configuration.
