IE MSN Problems! Please Help!

Hello.
I can't log on to the internet with IE or MSN explorer. When I try to log on msn it sends my user name back to the choose a user side. So when i try IE it says I need to connect to the internet and pops up my msn log on and the same thing happens again. I have a broadband connection so I should always be connected.
I can connect under my wifes account on the same computer. This happened before, and even if i could get on IE, I couldn't load any Microsoft pages, not hotmail, passport, games, so I did a system restore and everything was fine for a while, now it is starting again. XP is my operating system.

go to internet options, connections and make sure you dont have a connection in the box, it should be empty

There was a connection for msn explorer in the box. Everything seems fine now.
