Hello,

A friend of mine uses his laptop primarily in his fixed office. Hence he removes his battery & works directly off the A/C power supply claiming this will prolong the battery-life. Is this correct?

What are the pros/cons of this action? E.g. do laptop batteries regulate the A/C supply at all & could this action put his motherboard at risk?

What other issues are there?

Cheers,

BD.

Lithium ION batteries do have "life cycles." They can only be charged & discharged so many times (100's or 1000's). Over the years your battery won't hold a charge as long. Kind of like shoes, the less you wear them the less worn they are.

The battery doesn't regulate anything, it won't damage the hardware...

No issues here, actually kind of a smart thing to do if you rarely use your battery as it is the best way to preserve its life.

yeah but you would still want to charge/discharge them once a month at least, because then the chemicals will harden and it'll shorten it's life
