Start from cd

Uh, i'm working on my grandpa's computer because he lost his internet connection.
Well it alot bigger then that.
I goto the network connection window and he has none setup so I try to setup a connection and it won't go past the 2'nd page of the wizzard.
So I assume that some dll's are missing because when I try to run ipconfig in run it gives me an error. (IPCONFIG.EXE Unable to locate the component it says adsldpc.dll was not found.)
It also doesn't read printers when I plug it in.
Now I stick in the XP disk and click install components and I get another error (setup library comsetup.dll could not be loaded, or function OcEntry could not be found. Contact your system administrator. The specific error code is 0x7e.) So I click Install windows XP and it says
(the option to upgrade will not be available at this time because setup was unable to load the file D:\i386\winntupg\netupgrd.dll.dll)

SO my main question is how do I startup from the disk to run chkdsk, when I restart the computer with the cd in it, it just launches windows normaly.

You have to go into BIOS and change the first boot device to CDROM.

Also you could try to restore the computer to an earler time.

Yeah they had system restore turned off.

put the XP CD in the drive (while Windows is still runnning)
and go to start, run and type:
sfc /scannow

it will then repair/replace any missing files
