Well where to begin, one daughter was having problems with her Dell Latitude D800 laptop, and the other ignorant daughter decided to help her by putting in a hp quickrestore system recovery cd.
Now this has wound up in my hands.
When I turn the computer on all I get is a message saying "No bootable devices--strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for setup utility.
If I try to boot in safemode I just get an A prompt.
We have no disc for this computer (it was an ex's who hasnt been around to get it) and now I dont know where to start.
Any step by step instructions would be appreciated.

That's really odd that the Dell even accepted the HP CD's. I'm just guessing that the partition table has been damaged already. If your data was a huge concern there is a chance that you can retrieve "some of it." You would have to yank the hard drive out and hook it up to a host computer and run data recovery software. As for the OS, most competent computer repair shops can run a OEM restore using your entitlement sticker that should be on the bottom of your Dell...good luck.
