Went throught several sites and each and everyone of them said the 7900 isnt due to release till March 9th or so?

Definately wait for the G71 in March at least. Its going to make the 7800GT/GTX look like the FX series did to the 6800 series. Basically, now is not a good time to buy a 7800 series card because the G71 series is going to double performance.

I would imagine the G71 will be recommended for Elder Scrolls Oblivion which is comming out at the exact same time. I say it will also be minimum for playing UT2007 on 1280x1024.

Makes me wonder if they delayed Oblivion because they didn't like the results they were getting on current cards.

The G80 is the one I am waiting for, and since UE3 will be the standard for a while, my G80-based card should last me a while.

The 7900 series isn't supposed to be released until March.

The X1900XT is going to be realeased on Tuesday January 24th.

so the g80 core is the NEWER new nVidia core, yes? I'm confused about all of these code names. The g80 is the rumored '8800' card, right..? And g71 is the 7900? I'm just trying to get my facts straight. If what I'm saying is accurate, then when is the g80 core due to arrive?

Nvidia:
G71 = 7900
G80 = ? (I haven't heard about it except in this thread, any info would be awesome)

ATI
R580 = X1900

G80 will arrive in time for Windows Vista since it will be DX10 compatable and will also be the preferred platform for Unreal Engine 3 games.

I say that anybody who is considering getting a 7800 series card now should definately hold off for the 7900 series which is comming very soon. The 7900 series will do UT2007 satisfactory, but the 7800 series will feel very outdated in that game as well as all UE3 games.
