Hard drive upgrade

If you make an image it should work correctly without the need to install Windows on the new drive, but naturally you won't be able to do the partioning scheme that I mentioned. Just format the new drive and use Acronis to copy the image over. I imagine it's that easy."

How big should the Windows partition be?

I looked up on google and it's recommended only to have a seperate swap file on the second drive. My swap file is 1536 MB
 
I keep a partition for windows XP on my computer actually, I made it 6gigs, that's easily enough for windows and a few programs.
 
Partioin Magic will allow you to partion your machine with the spare space if you decide you want to create a seprate partion later on
