It seems everytime I update WindowsXP with security updates I get the problem of my PC locking up. I've tried a new stick of ram, new power supply and a new wireless PCI card. I have all the latest drivers for my hardware including the mobo's drivers.

The funny thing is after I get done installing the WindowsXP updates, it will lock then reboot (thats why i assumed it was a driver issue).

Should I try a new mobo possibly? Give me your opinions

Look in your eventlog and see what it's doing. Look for errors and such. When you say, locks up and reboots, can you explain a little more what you mean exactly.

the cpu will HANG up for about 1min or so, then reboot automatically. and i would do each update seperately, but i find that would be pointless if more then one update causes the problem

also i didnt see anything dealing with the problem in the event viewer

it sounds like you have auto update setup to reboot on demand and not to prompt you. I would look at the settings you are using. The delay can be related to shutting down other things. Look at the autoupdate config you have. Post your settings.

sorry i dont think i explained it enough :p
everytime i install the latest windows updates after i just formatted my PC it will hang/lock up when running certain processes.
#EX: When executing a Counter-Strike/Day of Defeat
#EX: Installing printer drivers (from cdr)
#EX: Or installing other applications

ok, that helps a bit.

Well, I think you problem is you play Counter strike. Just kidding.
The lock ups need to be traced. There isn't really an easy way to do this.
start by running Hijackthis and seeing what happenes. Run checkdisk, see what happens. Look through Eventvwr for any errors around the time you are running into the lockups.

it's not a science, but we can figure it out.

yeah ive pretty much tried everything, im about to flash my BIOS to the latest version as soon as i buy a floppy drive >:p
but in the mean time check out these conflicts/errors in my hardware....i hope its not the mobo but i have a gut feeling it is

where did you get this information from?

you would be seeing other symptoms. Not just from Windows update if the Mobo was the problem. There are a lot of areas that can go bad. best to get them out of the way before you say your Mobo is bad...
