Just wait the 7800GS will come out next month.
I don't think anybody would be stupid enough to look at a 7800GS for $99 and a 6800GS for $200 and not question why the lower number costs twice as much. It's not a marketing trick, they probably put it in the 7-series so people know its up to date. If they named it the 5800gs, no one would even consider buying it cuz 5-series are long gone.
I dont wanna be correcting or anything but im sure you mean 99$ 7300GS and a FX 5800GS. I know you where just using examples but i had to correct.

I'm just thinking... it's not too different than the 6 series. The 6800's were awesome cards, and the 6600's were pretty good, and the 6200 were dung. It's just the 'new' card that they're making for budget builds.

Do you think they'll release 7600 series? That would be nice to see because Theres a big jump from about $99 for a 7300GS to a $300 7800GT. Why not middle card for $150-$200?

Also, I don't think the 7300GS is going to phase out the 6600 series. I think the 6800GS phased out the 6600 series. And the 7300GS is phasing out the 6200 series. Then the 7800GS will phase out the 6800GS. The system works. :)

ahh...my eyes deceived me. my bad.

That line is wrong man. The 6600GT deffinately dosent = the 6800 because the 6800 can usualy be unlokced to GT. The 6800GS also get smoked by the GT (AGP as far as i know) and the 7800GS on paper is supposed to be on par if not better than the GT.

Only the 6800 AGP can be unlocked to 16 pipes and overclocked (and that still doesn't match the 6800GT). So yes, as far as the 90% of PCI-E users go, 6600GT = 6800.

Again, only in AGP does the 6800GS get smoked by the 6800GT. So 90% of PCI-E users; 6800GS = 6800GT.

And the 7800GS isn't just on paper, there have been real circulating models. Those models have been benchmarked, and have shown themselves to be slightly less pwoerful than the 7800GT. So, yea, the 7800GS < 7800GT.

flanker just likes to do his big long lines of '<' signs. a lot of room for error. I wouldn't give him too much trouble.
