My friend asked me to choose the parts for his system, being only used for nothing more than minor video editing so I got:

AMD64 3500+ 939
ASUS A8N SLI
2 x 512mb DDR 400 Kingston
ASUS 6600gt 128mb
Seagate 200gb SATA
Pioneer 110
LG generic CD-RW
Cooler master 450w PSU
Centurion CAC-T01 case

It ended up costing 1250 Australian Currency which I find excellent, going by mine costing 2000 a year ago and not being much better. The parts give quite a bit more power than he needs in my opinion but just in case.

Some of you have also probably noticed that i'm a bit of an ASUS junky, the mobo is good I know but should I opt for a Leadtek 6600gt, or should I go for a 3700+ processor with the 'san diego' core.

You should go for a 6800GS and a better psu :) . If you can afford it i would go with the 3700+ San diego :D yes. Everthing else looks ok. Im not a big asus fan ;)

if you do what i said so. and get a decent psu like antec, OCZ, Fortron then your build has been

Everything is fine.
My recomendation is get 2gig of ram for the video editing and you should really consider dual core cause it will speed things up alot better than any single core.
