where do i buy a windows OP xp pro for cheap? i can get it from a place for $150 but i think thats still expensive for just a disk. Anywhere where it might be cheaper?

you can only register once per CD, so you have to buy a new one for every computer.

now another question: will an old HD work on a completely new computer? Its an old DELL 30 gig. I have a new 300 gig that i also want to put it. Will it work?

EDIT: i mean without reinstalling the OS

It will work, you just need to run a repair with the OS disc that was used to format it.

You can buy it off ebay. All you say when you register it, is I just reformated. Simple.

Don't know never tried. you need the disc that was used to format and install windows on it. The same one.
