hi guys,

I recently installed a new sata 2 drive at my computer. I installed the OS and everything rans smooth.
Today I started my computer. On the frontpanel all lights came up like usual but inside nothing happened. The fans run, the light on the mainboard is on but no beep and no boot.
I tried:
- reset cmos
- with and without graphic card
- removed ram
-checked all connections

everytime the same thing: no beep no boot.

any help

Asus P5LD2
Intel PT4 630 3.0 GHz
Asus EAX 300
Seagate Sata 2 80 GB

Disconnect the Sata 2 connector.
Power-up....... any beeps? What does the screen say?

the monitor doesn't start up, but if I start it with another com it works fine,
I've tried that and disconnected Sata 2 but no beep at all.

I forgot to mention, I have one GB of Ram.

What do you mean: "another com"???
The screen is blank......... nothing?
This is new Ram????

I mean if I connect the monitor to another computer it's working fine.

It's a new computer. I built it about 3 month ago.

Everything was working OK, then the problem happened?
It 'posted' with audio and booted Ok all before this problem?
Just trying to fully understand the present problem!
Is the power supply new or an older unit?
What is the exact model #? Weak/cheap P/S can cause all sorts of problems.
If you had prior Audio....... verify your speaker connector did not come loose when you installed your SATA2.

First of all thanks for taking care of my problem.
Maybe I didn't make things clear.
Before a computer starts up there is a beep from the mainboard, if a device is missed there are different beeps. there is no beep and no startup at all at my computer.
All 5 fans ( incl.CPU fan) at my computer turn on, the light on the motherboard burns as usual and the light at the front panel show up like the computer is booting but no lights at the keyboard. The monitor stays black and nothing else happen.
All parts of the computer are new. If there were a problem with the PS I don't think that the fan would turn on.
I tested my monitor at another computer and it worked well.
I took the ram out piece by piece nothing happend.
I took the graphic card out and nothing happened.
So I think there can be only a problem with the motherboard.

Or do you think there could be something else?

Mark,
You said you installed the O.S. when you put in the SATA2.
So everything was OK at that time? You had " audio" and video and everything looked OK? I believe you have to "restart" your system after you install your O.S. Did it ever restart properly?
It still could be your P/S.
What model is your P/S ???
Is the speaker connector in properly?

Mark03,

Try unplugging everything you do not need to post your system- just PSU, CPU, ram, VGA, power switch, and speaker. Unplug your reset switch even!

If no post then try removing the memory and VGA and see if you get a beep. If no beep with the memory and VGA out then you have a problem with the CPU, PSU, or MTB. Try floating the MTB outside of the case at this point, or try replacing one of those parts to troubleshoot which item is the issue. Also, you might try reseting the bios on the MTB as well.
Best of luck!
