quick vid card question

which is better for games like bf2, css, hl, doom3, fear etc...

Sapphire Radeon X850XT (16 pl's)

or the

HIS Radeon X800GTO (12 pl's)

I read on some forums that even though the HIS has 12 pl's you can unlock 16 pl's...is this true? because for 20 bucks more, i guess 16 pl's out of the box is way better

I don't know anything about these cards, but here's my speculation. I have heard that you can unlock the pipes.

Out of the box, the X850XT will be faster than the X800GTO. But if you do decide to go with the GTO and unlock the pipes, consider this. When people modify the bios and unlock pipes, the units run hotter. It's doing more work... So you'll need to upgrade you're cooling. The X800 series is already a hot running group of cards, so you'll need some good cooling. Plan on spending 35 bucks on a good Zalman video cooler.

That's my speculation, but it's definately not written law. I'm not versed very well in ATI cards.

Why would you go with ATI? Go with a 7800GT and you will be a happy camper IMO. I don't know anything about ATI so other than that I am afraid I am no help. Sorry for the post hi-jack
