i'm about to build a custom rig and want to overclock it. i've read that its really easy to oc a radeon 9800 pro to the speed of an XT -- but my question is: do i need to look into additional cooling? is the fan enough? if not, whats a good solution?

same question with my 2.8 ghz p4.

thanks for your time

personally I would goto a 3d benchmarking community and find someone who has done or is doing the similar thing, because then you can get the exact clock speed/frequency that your gfx card can handle.

thats what i did for my gfx card =D

anyways, why not go XT? I heard they were more cheaper then pro anyways.

for the 9800 get a program such as ati tool or radclocker. ATI tool is nice because you can see the artifacts right away. The main thing is to go slowly with your increase. Start with the core and increase it slowly until you see artifacts. Then do the same with the memory frequency. If you find that the achieved frequency is not high enough, then go for the extra cooling. I've got the 9800 pro and it's overclocked to 414 core and 347 memory with stock cooling and it runs like a charm.
