How Hot is Too Hot?

I just installed SpeedFan and monitored it every now and again and after a 2 hour session of Counter Strike: Source, I noticed my CPU was at 94 celcius. About 10 minutes later (now) its at 72C; its drop a substantial amount. Is 92 celcius a little to hot for the CPU to run? I was looking for a reason to get that Zalman 9500 and now... hehe.

you need to list your cpu!!! although in this case it is kind of unnecessary that is [snipped] hot!!! i would get an aftermarket cooler and some AS5

i think its clear what this is. either its a prescott p4 with screwed cooling or he has way too much money and went out and bought a dual core xeon. i'm guessing the former. out of curiosity where do you live and what are the average temperatures there?

Speed fan often lies about temperatures, check in the BIOS as the PC should shut down at those temperatures.

true. also could you list the motherboard? some motherboards are known to have issues with temp sensors. personally i like ITE smart guardian for temp monitoring, it came with my lanparty. not sure if its a dfi exclusive program or anything but see if you can download it.

Your computer is not performing as it should because Intel CPUs throttle themselves when they get that hot. You'll need better cooling to bring the temperature below about 60C and then your comp will run properly.

my CPU is running at 40C all the time! I try to take good care of my PC by turning it off at night and letting it sleep!

Wow! When I saw this I became worried... Thank god I know now. Im gonna go to CompUSA and get that Zalman. Thanks for the help.

Yea 90C is really hot. Definitely get the Zalman.
