Hello everyone, i'm looking to build myself a new gaming rig. I'm also working on a starting budget of about 800 bucks, so i can't go too high-end with anything. This is also the first rig i will build so im lacking a bit of experience. If you could recommend Parts and mods that would make a decent gaming rig for a decent price, that would be awesome. Here are what i'm looking for....
- Case w/ cooling (cooling optional)
- Motherboard, preferably ASUS
- CPU (no clue about what is good for gaming)
- Power Supply
- Video Card
- Hard Drive
- Disc Drives
- and any other component i forgot to mention.

Remember that i have 800 to start and i could put off finishing it until i get more money. Just recommend where to start and what is good at a reasonable price. Thank You.

All my stuff was just under $900 after shipping, I play BF2 on full everything, COD2 on full, FEAR on all high settings...only thing I would reconsider in my list is the PSU..people say the aspire power supplies suck...i haven't had any issues though.

But if you're get anything I have..get the XFX 6800GS, best bang for your buck at the moment for a vid card.

The 3700+ San Diego is probably the best bang for your buck as far as gaming, it overclocks to fx-57 (best gaming chip out) speeds with the same core...its a single-core processor, which for gaming is all you'll need, but if you want to do a lot of processing with programs in windows and what not, you'll want a dual-core like the 3800+.

I like my MB, but I hear a lot of good things about the DFI lanparty.

I always highly recommend the case I got, great cooling, room for all kinds of fans (120 mm in back, 80 mm on top, 2 80mm on front, side intake w/ duct)

will this be any good for a system?

-ASUS A8N-SLI-PREMIUM
-AMD ATHLON 64 3200
-ANTEC NEO He 500
-SEAGATE BARRACUDA 7200.8; 250 GIGS

Will this be a good basics for a gaming system or no?
i also need a decent case, nothing too snazzy but good looking.
oh and thanx for the help man.

oh yeah i know im missing a vid card, but yeah im not sure i want an SLI board, but it's what i found unless they make the same board without the SLI. Could ou recommend another board than, of equal or greater quality and in the same price range?

You should be able to use the board with only 1 video card even if its SLI, I think they still support 1 vid. card aswell.

yeah it will, my current motherboard is and sli i think, but i don't wanna have to spend exra cash if it's what im doing, if not them... meh.
But back to my other question, is that a good basic for a gaming setup (even though i dont have a vid card listed)?

Alright guys this is i have so far.

-ASUS A8N-SLI-PREMIUM (I'M JUST GONNA STICK WITH IT SINCE THE OTHER GUY WAS RIGHT ABOUT IT RUNNING ONLY ONE CARD)
-AMD ATHLON 64 3700+ SAN DIEGO
-ANTEC 550W TRUE POWER 2.0
-SEAGATE BARRACUDA 7200.8 250GB
-EVGA 6800 GS
WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK?
DOES THAT SOUND VERY OVERCLOCKABLE?

SO FAR IT'S ABOUT 791.98 BEFORE SHIPPING. ALL I NEED NOW IS THE CASE, ANY SUGGESTIONS? PREFFERABLY SOMETHING COOLED BECAUSE I'VE MANAGED TO SCRAPE UP SOME MORE CASH.
