when i install Windows Professional XP on my computer (just build so brand new), once all the files are copied to the hard drive and after i restart it, it comes up with a message "Windows cannot start becausethe following file is missing or corrupt: <Windows folder>/setup32/hal.dll. Please re-install and try again."

well i reinstalled it a couple times and the same message comes up. any suggestions or is there a way to downlaod and transfer that file?

It does sound like a vendor disk being used on a non-vendor computer. IE, trying to install XP from a Packard Bell CD on a generic system won't work.

huh why are you starting another thread on this?

we were just talking about this a little earlier in another thread, just reply in that one.

i would check to make sure your memory is ok, properly inserted, make sure no sticks are bad, everything is secure etc. Wehn I had this problem, it was because I had overclocked to high.
