I Disagree Ek .. The surface area of the metal on the case (unless u have ann acrylic case or somethin ) ..is more than sufficient to discharge the static generated ...

I'm an electronic engineer ... n' we did some study on this kind of stuff
 
An antistatic wrist band will cost you less than £5.00, for the sake of being sure I am not damaging a £300.00 graphics card, I think it’s worth it.

Also, on the issue of using metal necklaces, this is very dangerous; all antistatic wrist straps have a resistor built in to them, from memory its 1 meg-ohm. This allows the static to dissipate with out the user being fried in the eventuality of an earth fault. As a rule I will work on my computer with it plugged in, but turned off at the wall, this allows an earth/ground connection with no risk of electrocution.
