my father just implemented a wireless router in our house network thus forcing me to purchase a wireless network card. i bought the d-link DWL-G122 AirPlus G 802.11g/2.4Ghz. On installing the network card, i found that my connection has become extremely slow, prone to frequent ping spikes, and often slows down to the point where the internet stops working completely. Upon further inspection of my computer hardware, i find that i have a usb 1.2 port. is this source of slow activity? should i upgrade to a usb 2.0 port? if so, could somebody recommend a good, yet affordable port card? thanks

I prefer my trusty usb Linksys wireless adapter to any pci one. As for your problem, your usb 1.1 ports could be the problem. I'd test the adapter on one or two other computers to be sure. Also, be sure you're in range of the router itself.
Here's my recommendation for a port card:

I've used this for nearly a year with top-notch performance and absolutely not problems. Very inexpensive, too.
