okay, i'm trying to upgrade my dads computer, cuz i'm tired of him coming in my room everymorning to check his email...

there's a couple things i wanted to get.. but first i must know.... what socket is an Intel 810L ... i can't find anything everythign i find just says its for celeron and p3... but i think its a socket 478

okay so what i wanted to get for him was
1. a better processor.... this celerons only running 700mhz

2. pc133 ram, currently has 192 mb ram, looking for 2 256 sticks

3. a nice cd drive with a burner... (dont know what went wrong with otherone... isnt detected anymore... probably need to download the driver for it)

4. a graphics card with at least 64mb of ram.. the onboard 11mb just doesnt do anything... mom does moderate gaming.. if that, plays really crappy games.. so at most 64 mb... haha
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102318

they have an old hp pavilion 6830, and its just terrible...

please correct me if anything is wrong... and again, its only just supposed to run! looking to reformat once i back up all the data

i knew it was an old chipset... but it still has a processor, and i want to change that processor the celerons only running 700 mhz, so i wanted a better processor, so i was asking what socket the processor was, so i could find a better one to replace that crap celeron

and my parents don't demand too much, so i don't need anything flashy, they just want it to run a little faster, and burn cd's

stil not sure if its a socket 478....

only problem with that belarc plan is that my dads computer doesnt seem to want to run the internet anymore... it says its connected but its limited or no connectivity... so i can't download anything with it... and ya.. it probably is a 370... its really old and crappy.. didnt see anything like slot 1 or socket 370 on new egg.... no idea how to get the internet up again.... i probably need to reformat it, its full of virus' and spyware...

i'm beginning to think he's computer should just be trashed... its ancient now... maybe i should just build him something really cheap... as long as it can check email, and play games that require 4 mb ram graphics card.... i should be able to keep a budget under 500 with that....

hrmm more problems.. the computer i'm using now doesnt have a floppy drive.. but thank god i got this flash drive... i can use this

anywho, if his computer too much of junk i might just build... only because i have a cravy to build now! but i may be back in a bit with the info of his computer.. if only i could find that flash drive

*well i found it... (nevertake hardware with you to the beach... found it in my wet jeans)

i should be able to keep a budget under 500 with that....

Use the opticals, monitor, keyboard, mouse, and speakers from his current rig.

thats a really nice set up there, and thats really cheap with shipping, wow, i think i just might build that, that would totally beat my dads junker, thanks for that advice.. i just might build that for a friend too

i could finish up that build in no time, should only take a month.. but considering i'm still building my own... give it 2 and a half months or so... but i'll still be back to post the specs of my dads rig later on today...

by the way i think you left out a cd burner.. but its all good.. pick up something thats 30 bucks.. don't need dvd player/burner.. just cdr

i'll probably end up turning it into somewhat of a gaming rig.. just for the fun of it... 6600 gt for it :) !! haha.. eventually... and a better processor.. pentium 4 preferably.. get a nice lan game going on in my house

well my dads being stubborn... saying "he love his computer the way it is" yet he never uses it... so i guess i'm stuck to building him one :) , i will surprise him
