My cd/dvd drive is not reading any burned dvd-r's or dvd+r's. However, the drive will read regular cd software and dvd's. Do I need a dvd decoder?

Even when I go to my computer, the drive tells me to insert a disc.

Please help. Very frustrated.

Thanks

sounds like your drive doesn't support burnt DVD media...i have a drive exactly like this and it's a combo drive too

Actually, I spoke to soon. the drive can pick up regular software cd's but it cant even read dvd's. Not sure why. any ideas?

lol do you have just a CD drive?

you might check with the company that manufactures it, see if you can re-install the software or something

i have a cd/dvd rom drive and a writer. it's an hp pavilion 723n. i dont burn dvd's but i sure would like to. used to be able to watch movies on my computer but now i cant. my roommate burns dvd's all the time so i wanted to start but my cd/dvd rom drive must be all screwed up. maybe i'll just take it in. i'm lost.
