Hi
My mate's asked me to build him a computer for an amzing £200 ($350). He wants to be able to play games and upgrade it in the future. So where do i start.
I suppose i should go for a good socket 939 motherboard with good onboard graphics and sound and then he could add a graphics card and sound card later. Not sure what motherboard to get

Then get a decent case as they don't cost much but shall i get one with a power supply with it or are these so bad that i should pay the extra for a proper power supply so he won't have to upgrade that in the future ? Or shall i use one of my crappy spare PSU's until more powers needed ? I'll probs get the coolermaster centuiron 5 if i get one without PSU.

Then get a cheap stick of 512MB RAM probs crosair valueselect.
Then probs a good opteron processor so that he doesn't have to upgrade that anytime soon.

He already has CD, DVD drives and a monitor and speakers and an 80GB hard drive so he can upgrade them later as well.

So that's about it. Total probs 100 for processor, 30 for case, 30 for RAM, 50-70 for motherboard. Ah already over budget without a PSU. Anyone have any ideas? And what components to get ?

No. Socket 939 is nowhere near your level of afforability. Infact, I don't think anything is.

Only thing that come sto mind.

A case with cheap PSU: $40
Foxonn/Asus Geforce6100+410 Mobo: $100
Socket 939 Processor: $150

That doesn't include any harddrive or anything.

We have to pay tax included in the US price @17.5% and we have to pay a bit more anyway. Also tell him to cough up twice as much if he wants anything decent.

Use his current cd drives and hdd and you can get this from overclockers:
