I have a Client, PC Spec, AMD Athlon 1.4G cpu, 256M Ram, AGP 64M Graphics Card, PCI Nic, 60G HDD runnig Windows 98 S.E

Problem started Mon, when User tried to delete a large folder, reported too large for Recycle Bin but deleted anyway, after that the display condensed into the top left hand side of the screen then would only reboot into safe mode.
Client then reloaded Windows 98 but boot process stopped on Windows 98 screen.
Rebooted into Safe Mode, System - Display showed a cross on the NVidia Graphics Card - Removed, restarted & re-installed NVidia Driver, all ok.
PC ran fine 3hrs+ then began to freeze, no kbd or mouse activity.
Replaced VGA with a 2M PCI VGA ( to prove if VGA card faulty), booted immediately & ran ok for 2 hrs+ then mouse moved but programs would not open just highlight. Task Manager showed a program not responding, ended task, ok but all printers had disappeared. Customer has since restarted and all printers have returned.

Could a 2M VGA have an effect on programs that are basically text based.

Thanks for any ideas what else to do !!!

I don't think this is a VGA card problem ... Check the CPU HS fan ..See if it's runnin' properly
It could also happen due to dust accumalation on the HS fan .. The temps start rising n' the system freezes
