Building a laptop

I want to get into computer building. Firslty as a trial run i want to build a low spec Laptop. can you us simalar cpu's and motherboard in a laptop and pc's?
also is there anything else on this list that iwoould need?

Case
Operating System

There are a few barebone lappys on the market, but if you want to learn to build you need to hit desktops first.

where would you say the best place to buy parts from is?
I have previously bought a large amount of computer stuff on ebay.co.uk is there anywhere just as cheap and reliable?
