a new case: something so simple that not even i could screw up? probably not.

a really long time ago i bought the window's media center by hp. i've slaved hard drives and ripped out those little buttons that let you change the channel on what your watching with your tv turner and many other things. it works fine, but its an aestetic nightmare.

so i wanna get a case off newegg.com or something. the problem is, i've never actually taken a computer completely apart and put it in a new case. is there anything important i should consider?

thanks

Installing a generic computer in a standard case is no sweat. However, with some proprietary PC's like Compaq, HP, etc, there is no guarantee that the power supply or motherboard will fit in the new case. You would have to check it out by test fitting it into the case. You also might have no choice but to use the power supply that came with your PC as the pinout might be non-standard. I have encountered this with some proprietary systems.
