Quick specs:

WinXP Pro
Enlight 420W PS

I had an ATI 9800 pro 256MB and the bearings on the fan siezed up. the card is no longer good.
I bought an ATI 9800XT 256MB to replace it.
I installed the XT (hooked up all cables, seated correctly) and I boot the computer.
the first boot, it just shuts off after checking both CD drives.
If I turn it on again, I get the overheat siren, and it stops booting. I'll get this until I pull the card and start the computer without it.

The computer boots fine without the card, runs at a constant 81 degrees F.
The Mobo on-board graphics function for now, but I'd really like to get back to playing games.

Ya, I'd go for an NVIDIA product too. Every card I've owned from that company has treated me awesome. Overclocked and all.
But thats just my 2 cents.
Cheers

Oh yeah, and if your gaming, I would recommend a 128mb card. 256's are ment for graphic design.

While I appreciate the consumer information regarding ATI vs. NVIDIA, I have made my choice and stand by it. This is the first ATI card I've had trouble with. I probably won't have any more trouble with NVIDIA since I have no intention of buying another NVIDIA card ever.

that being said, I've had but one actual response regarding my problem. Thank you, mike4realz.
