question about memory upgrading

hi guys

wanna ask if i can get a memory stick that my mobo doesnt support or not

i wanna get DDR400 ram, but my mobo supports up to DDR333 ram only. and since its all DDR,they are all 184 pins right? so i think i can still buy it if it can downclock itself automatically? does it downclock itself to DDR333 for me?

well, even though they are all 184pin your mobo can only support up to a certain speed of ram, going higher or lower could damage your system. looks like you will have to stick to 333.

It will downclock the RAM to the lowest speed of whatever RAM is in your motherboard.

You won't get the benefits of the higher speed since your mobo can't go that high, but it will work.

btw the rig in my sig is my dream rig, i dont have it.

If you have less than a gig, then yes it will help your computer to have more RAM.
