If you have nvidia, there is a temp monitor built into the drivers. If there isn't, then your video card dosn't have one. Not sure how ATI cards work.

when i think of trotter, i think of funny guy bashing head on keyboard.

With newer nvidia cards you can find the temp with the display propeties. Otherwise use something like Everest or Speedfan but they have a bit of a margin of error.
