helloooooo. i have recently got a new hard drive and have reinstalled xp onto it. on my old hd i have a corrupt version of windows xp. I can still get to the files on that drive, but i want to get into the folder in c:\documents and settings\ called "owner". this was my previous username on my old install. when i try and open the folder it comes up with an error saying "access denied". anyone got any ideas?

You have to boot into safe mode and take ownership of this folder back. Since you had a previous account that was pasword protected the files are protected. This way you can take ownership back and be able to move them.

ok.
Makaveli213 that didnt work. its still came up with the access denied message.

The drive is not set as a slave drive. It is set as primary. The new install is on the slave drive. Would that make a difference?

Yes that makes a difference. I thought that the drive was a slave drive and not the primary. I think if you reverse them you might be able to take ownership back.
